Upcoming Event: Calkain Cares Tops & Tails Gala!

Less then two days left before the 1st Annual Calkain Cares Tops & Tails Gala on Friday October 2nd! We are honored to have Meaghan Mooney of WUSA9's Great Day Washington as the Emcee for the evening. The beautiful Salamander Resort will serve as the event venue for the black tie Gala. We have a line up of fantastic speakers, performances, a three course plated dinner and silent and live auctions. Find out more about the event at www.calkaincares.com.

Why attend? Imagine if you did not have full use of your eyes, arms or legs and a friend gave you the confidence to do all of your daily activities in spite of that limitation. These remarkable friends do exist and they are service dogs from Hero Dogs and Canine Companions for Independence. These non-profit organizations provide trained companions at NO CHARGE to our wounded veterans and individuals facing physical and developmental challenges or long-term rehabilitation and illness. It costs between $10,000 and $50,000 to train and place a service dog! The evening will feature both of these charities inspirational work and a portion of all the proceeds will benefit both charities. Meet some of the extraordinary dogs and their handlers from as well.

We have special discounted tickets for veterans, teachers, service dog owners, trainers and puppy foster parents. Contact us at info@calkaincares.com to purchase your tickets at this special rate. Accommodations at the Salamander Resort will be available for the evening of October 2, 2015 at a discounted rate for attendees. Call the Salamander Resort Group Coordinator, Eliza Langdon, at (540) 326-4195 to make a reservation and ask for the Calkain Cares Tops & Tails group rate.

Host & Toast is proud to be the event sponsor for the evening! We are looking forward to a very successful night in honor of these wonderful service dogs.

Golf, Bocce & Beer....Last Minute Father's Day Party Ideas

This weekend we celebrate the special men in our lives! Here are some last minute Father's Day party ideas which can be pulled together quickly (often using some of items you already have at home).

Golf Par-Tee!

Chances are at least one of the men in your life are playing golf this weekend. What better way to celebrate with them after a round of golf then a "Golf Par-Tee." Use golf balls, tees, clubs, shoes and golf accessories you may have available at home as decor. Artificial grass works wonders as a table runner or place mats and burlap as 'sand traps.' (See photos below for some inspiration). If your a baker, creatively decorated cupcakes or cookies are always fun.....if you prefer to purchase pre-made, add some fun golf themed toppers. Really want to make an impression? You can also buy a putting green that can be used indoors or outdoors for guests to 'practice putting' on.  This theme is sure to score a 'hole-in-one!"

Bottoms Up! Beer Tasting Party

There's nothing better in most men's minds then having a cold beer on a warm Sunday afternoon watching SportsCenter or hanging out with the family. How about spicing things up a bit? Get the special men in your life to try new beers by hosting a tasting. Pair with finger foods (although what doesn't taste great with a beer) and you have a fun+delicious way of celebrating Father's Day. He may even discover a new favorite! Cheers!

Father's Day Lawn Party

Get the competitive juices flowing by hosting a lawn party with classic lawn games as the focal point! Vintage sports are all the rage again. Bocce, Croquet, and Badminton just to name a few are wonderful for a lawn party. Your guests can eat pre-made and pre-wrapped food which makes clean up easy as well (see below for inspiration). Find an old wheel barrow and fill it with ice, soda, beers, or your favorite drinks for an easy way to transport and serve beverages. Eat, Drink & Play!
