Peeps grow on trees? Paper boats can float in the Inner Harbor? A pillow fight on The National Mall? No, its not an April Fools prank. These are actual events happening this weekend. Check out our top picks of things to do in the DC Metro area April 2-3, 2016.
Blossom Kite Festival
Where: Grounds of the Washington Monument near 17th St NW & Constitution
When: Saturday April 2, 2016, 10am-4:30pm
Admission: FREE
The National Cherry Blossom Festival organizers are calling the Blossom Kite Festival on the Mall a celebration of “50 years of kite flying," dating back to the first Smithsonian Kite Festival in 1967. But an event like this doesn’t need a bigger hook: Seeing colorful kites take over the sky over America’s Front Yard as families take part in the fun is incentive enough to make it to the Mall for this one. The event runs from 10 am to 4:30 pm {with a rain date of Sunday at noon}. Event details here.
Light City Baltimore Festival
Where: Baltimore Inner Harbor
When: Friday-Sunday April 1-3, 2016
Admission: FREE for everything except the conferences
Calling itself the first U.S. large-scale light festival, Light City will illuminate Baltimore throughout this weekend with colorful, glowing art installations, musical performances, theater and more. The action is focused around Baltimore's Inner Harbor and the surrounding areas, including the "Voyage" installation: 300 floating "paper boats" encasing colored LED lights on the Inner Harbor water. International Pillow Fight Day
Where: The National Mall, Washington Monument Grounds
When: Saturday April 2, 2016, 3pm
Admission: FREE for all ages
The rules for the International Pillow Fight Day gathering near the Washington Monument are pretty simple: no down pillows, swing lightly and don’t take out any photographers. Other than that, the pillow fight staged on the Mall resembles the same thing you did with your siblings, cousins and friends as a kid, just on a much larger scale, with a more scenic backdrop. Starts at 3 pm. Event details here.
